Applied Geophysical Measurements Laboratory

Maintenance, management and laboratory development dedicated to geophysical technologies applied to the environment, archeology and territory. Exercise activities in environmental emergencies. Production of technical-scientific relations for National Authorities working in the field of environmental emergencies and land management.

In this Functional Unit, the most modern and effective geophysical geo-electromagnetic exploration techniques are studied, tested and applied in the territory to define the structure of the subsoil from the first meters up to the hundreds of meters of depth. The main areas of application concern the environment, archeology and the territory. For the environment, the activity consists primarily in identifying the sewers of hazardous waste, drums containing toxic materials, abusive landfills and various forms of underground pollution. For archeology, the activity involves the identification of anthropic structures buried like necropolis, masonry, floors, temples, cisterns, etc. For the territory the research aims to study and characterize intramontana geological basins, the definition of sedimentary thicknesses and the depth of the bedrock in seismogenetic areas, mapping of faults, the identification and study of sinkholes, cavities in areas Urban at risk of collapse and the identification of underground waterfalls. UF 8 also provides geophysical support activities to the research activities carried out by other UFs of the ANV.
