The paleomagnetic laboratory of INGV is located in Rome and originates directly from the laboratory that was gradually set up since 1990 at the former Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica.
Since its first set up, the paleomagnetic laboratory of ING-INGV has been progressively developed and implemented both in terms of the specific scientific instrumentation installed and of the qualified personnel, so that it presently constitutes the main Italian paleomagnetic facility and one of the best-equipped European laboratories of this kind.
The researchers formed and working in the paleomagnetic laboratory of INGV acquired a considerable scientific expertise in various fields of application of paleomagnetism, rock magnetism and environmental magnetism.
The paleomagnetic laboratory of INGV has been constantly involved in various large scientific international projects and in several scientific partnerships with various Italian universities and scientific institutions. The measuring and research activities that have been carried out resulted in the publication of several papers in the scientific literature, which brought to the paleomagnetic laboratory of the INGV a remarkable scientific reputation.
The paleomagnetic laboratory of INGV has gained the role of reference facility for this scientific discipline and, as such, hosted several researcher guests from various national and foreigner institutions.
